My dragons have finally crawled off paper and onto beautiful English Fine Bone China. Take a look at them in my Teeth and Claws Shop – Dragon Mugs by Nicola L Robinson
I’ve been drawing dragons since I was very small, about 3 years old. They are one of the first things I started consciously drawing. My dragons have developed somewhat since those early scribblings but they have always been somewhere nearby, even as my artwork has gone through various phases, subjects and mediums. They disappeared for a while during my Fine Art degree (where illustration in general was somewhat frowned upon, so I imagine my dragons probably hid well away!) and during more serious illustration commissions. They would have liked to have had more appearances in my work with children’s book publishers but I haven’t been asked for dragons very often. Although they continue to inhabit my sketchbooks and corners of receipts waiting for an opportunity…
My dragons have come back with a vengeance this last year or two with my flourishing illustrated brand Teeth and Claws, and I couldn’t be happier 🙂 I’ve got an ongoing series of dragon art prints and dragon cards, and for a long time have wanted to see my work on something more three dimensional. I started producing dragon coasters a few months ago, and it was exciting to see my work on an object! rather than paper, so I’ve been keen to produce more things, as time and finances permit! Mugs were an obvious next choice, but it wasn’t until I was on a trip to Washington DC last October when I spent a few days exploring many of the art galleries and museums there, and saw lots of beautiful ceramics that I started thinking about dragon mugs again, and finally decided to make them a reality.
They make lovely dragon gifts for dragon fans of all ages, they certainly make teabreak a bit more exciting in this studio too 🙂
