A recent illustration inspired by watching the wildlife in my garden and surrounding area. Birds in the park…

This particular species of bird grows to a colossal size. The large powerful beak has rows of curved, barbed teeth and a long wormlike, segmented tongue. It has multiple sets of pale yellow eyes and an excellent sense of smell. The plumage is inky black and grows in long rather tatty locks which form large ruffle around the neck. It can fly, although due to it’s massive size often chooses to live on the ground. It’s voice is low and rumbling, punctuated with occasional guttural screams. It is a highly intelligent bird with a particularly curious nature. Fond of hot air balloons and classical music.

As it is somewhat new and shiny and I decided to make a print of this illustration to use as my promotional flyer for the SCBWI Illustration wall display at the Edinburgh international book festival 2016…
